What am I meant to do? is a partly introspective series, shot in the Peloponnese in early 2024, looking at an environment that has been largely left behind by globalisation, with a perspective coloured by depression, climate-anxiety, and anger at how the UK has failed to protect people’s lives and dignities domestically and abroad.
The communities in the region have suffered severe population loss in the last century, mostly to population centres in Greece and in the rest of the world. Increasing risk from wild-fires and a rising average temperature endangers the livelihoods and personal safety of the residents.
This project considers what economic emigrants from the region must have felt when deciding to make a drastic change to their lives, in order to fit in with a global system of worker exploitation, detachment from nature, and climate breakdown.
